Introducing Notes from the Unquiet

Inspired by fellow writer-friends and feeling the absence of connection since breaking up with one of my social media accounts after two decades, I’ve been thinking for a while about starting one of these. I have always taken things very literally – just ask my poor mother – and calling this a newsletter feels like too much self-imposed pressure. Then I’d have to make the news that I write, and I cannot promise to do anything newsworthy. Noteworthy, on the other hand, I might be able to manage.

What’s in a name?

Unquiet is a descriptor lovingly bestowed on me by my late father-in-law Nick, who said in his toast at my wedding: “When you first meet her, she seems quiet. But when she speaks about something she’s passionate about, she becomes very unquiet.”

In these monthly notes, you can expect to find stuff about writing and other things I’m passionate about – books, mental health, feminism, and relationships. I also hope to share some of my original songs. So, there will be notes on two levels – written and musical. And I will strive to always have a point. If I were to get another tattoo it would probably be, To what end are all these words? I promise to ask myself that each time I publish one of these. I recognize we all have a limited attention span and I appreciate any time you spend here.
